What is SPARTA Radio?

SPARTA Radio is a project in the framework of Something Stronger Than Me* at WIELS, Brussels.

SPARTA Radio provides a structure for communication in the form of a radio platform that can be listened to in the exhibition space and streamed online. Content is generated out of the weekly ‘Sparta X’ talk program at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, the musical cosmos around the community of the school, contributions from artists and collectives participating in Something Stronger Than Me* at WIELS and input by musicians from Brussels.

Concentrating on SPARTA’s main purpose of being a social platform to meet, discuss and reflect, SPARTA Radio develops its own knowledge network over the course of the project. Starting in November 2017, content will be added on a weekly basis until January 7th, 2018.

SPARTA was founded at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in 2014 and is run by students. It is a ‘space’ that is defined philosophically rather than geographically. It is a social place to meet, to discuss and reflect. In the context of Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, it is a room where food was served, parties held, with workshops and a weekly talk programme. It has always been in constant change and the people participating in it are constantly learning from it. It is a space where students can meet artists, thinkers, and writers. Professors and students can propose guests and thus it changes together with the whole body of the school, creating its own knowledge exchange, its own content, and network outside of the curriculum and the academy’s masterclass.

SPARTA wants to keep the discussion moving to enable progress and the development of new ideas.
